Well it looks like I'm in the minority here, but I was not at all impressed with this story. I've read and loved other Linda Lael Miller books such as "Pirates" but DANIEL'S BRIDE definitely left much to be desired. It was originally published in 1992 and to me felt dated and very much showed its age. I expected it to be intriguing and somewhat romantic since it is categorized as a romance novel, but that was absolutely not the case. And if you expect the hero to behave like a knight in shining armor just because he saves the heroine from the hangman's noose, then you had best think again...Once Daniel has Jolie he treats her as a temporary wife, even more like a prostitute, intending to give her a divorce when it's convenient for him. He also seems to still be in love with his deceased wife throughout almost the entire tale. Jolie on the other hand loves him whole-heartedly, to the point where she has no self respect. Daniel constantly uses her for sex when he has no intention of staying married to her as he states time and time again. Meanwhile Jolie lets him do it, and treat her like garbage afterwards. Sadly, she seemed much more into him than he was her. This is not a story of true love but instead a marriage of convenience that never quite developed into more. It's not nearly the best LLM has to offer and I'm sorry to say, not a book I'd recommend or one that I'll ever read again.

Another amazing story. By this author, a former train robber, a woman that secretly plays poker in a saloon with friends and one of the girls, a child hated by his mother for being her husband's bastard child, a jail and a bank blown up and it's a exciting tale with love and sex involved.
Sarah Tamlin works at a bank with her
father who has flash backs from the civil
war. Ephriam Tamlin, going back in time,
dresses up in his Union Army Blue uniform.
Sarah needs to protect her father who the
founder, president and holder of majority
shares in the Stockman's Bank. If word were
to leak out that he's demented, he would
be dismissed. Sarah and her father wouldn't
have any money to live on. Ephriam Tamlin
had some bad loans when they had a drought.
He used his own money to cover several loans
to ranchers so they won't lose their land.
Wyatt Yarbo is an outlaw. He decided to
turn his life around. His brother Rhowdy
offered him a place to stay, if he would
leave his outlaw life behind for good.
Wyatt decided to visit his brother Rhowdy
who's a marshal in Stone Creek. Wyatt
arrived in town when the town was having
their yearly hay harvest. That's where he
met Sarah for the first time. Wyatt was
interested in Sarah with designs on marrying
her. His brother Rhowdy told him she's a
banker's daughter with a college education,
and wouldn't get involved with an outlaw.
I've been hooked on the Stone Creek series. I am
happy one of Rhowdy's (second book) brother's
Wyatt Yarbro, had a chance on his story.
The Rustler (Stone Creek) third in the series
could be read independently. I would recommend
reading The Man From Stone Creek and A Wanted
Man. Many of the characters in the first two in the
series played sufficient roles in The Rustler.
I highly recommend The Rustler! (Stone Creek)
I used to like Linda Lael Miller books, but there are times I feel like I’m reading the same characters over and over and over. Take the Big Sky Series, for instance. When I started reading it I realized that some things are a given. For instance, there will be dogs involved. Either the hero will find a dog or the dog will find him. Or the heroine will find a dog or they’ll BOTH find dogs. Exactly the same scenarios in the previous LLM series I read.
Also, there won’t be much dialogue between the man and the woman. Now between her and her friends, there will be tons of dialogue. Take Kendra from this book, for instance. She had a problem with Hutch essentially “giving her away” when her first husband began pursuing her. She never told him that. They rarely discussed the past except to say “let’s let it go.” That’s great, but how do you avoid repeating past mistakes if you don’t even know what they are?
And as far as the woman is concerned, again, not much talking, but TONS of inner dialogue in which everything that involves her child makes her sigh or blink back tears or makes her heart full or fills her heart with gratitude. Very, VERY repetitive. I just hope at some point LLM breaks out of this rut and creates some NEW characters.
I started with big sky country and got hooked. I like Linda's writing and have read books by her in the past. Who can resist handsome cowboys right the girls in the books try but the connection is too strong to fight. In this book hutch has his eye on Kendra who is not quite ready to get her heart broken by him again, but her daughter has a better idea, she wants a daddy too. I love that the characters have pasts they have to learn to live with before moving on it makes them feel more real like old friends. I can't wait til the next book in the series arrives so I can learn more about Boone and Tara.
I kind of liked the main lead characters, and leads in secondary story...except every character starts off as a one-note cliche, then never changes. Hero is bull-headed chauvinist; heroine is feisty but always righteous; secondary hero is close-minded and unforgiving; secondary heroine undeservedly hangs her head and yearns for forgiveness throughout. These are completely one-dimensional characters I kept hoping would grow up, but except for about 5 sudden pages near end, no such luck.
I don't recommend this book; aside from poor character development, this whole book just feels old and outdated.
